Coronation

You may have seen (parts) of the coronation of king Charles, last week. As we are used to the British being meticulous, everything was executed perfectly. They have, after all, had many years to practice. I heard King Charles is one of the oldest kings ever to be crowned. And as we are also used to the British stiff upper lip, not many emotions were shown. Though I’m pretty certain that Charles was as nervous as anyone would be, under these circumstances.

Used

He was certain not to show his insecurity, though. After all, he’s had so much experience in his life. I’ve once seen an interview that made me look at him in a different way. Up to then I never thought much of this man. He seemed to be a ‘mummy’s boy’ and tried to always walk the right path in what was expected of him. Even when the Queen wanted him to marry a, much younger, girl to provide an heir he never thought of disobeying.

In love

It was a well known fact that Charles had always been in love with Camilla. But since he never seemed to make up his mind, or was too afraid and insecure to make any moves, Camilla decided to marry someone else while Charles was abroad. Now I’ve never spoken to the man, but I know this must have hurt him more than we will ever know. So what did he have to lose in marrying someone he never really cared for?

Drama

And we all fell in love with the young princess. She was pretty, young and very naive. She has talked about feeling betrayed in her marriage. But we all knew there was no other way, the love affair between Camilla and Charles went on long before Diana said ‘Yes’. She was used, sure, and many things were wrong, but I sometimes wondered if Charles was the only one to blame. He was part of a much bigger theatre plot. And blame was something he had known from a very early age.

Interview

Coming back to the interview, years ago, I ‘met’ another man. For the first time he opened up and talked freely about the bullying in school he had to endure. He always craved a ‘normal’ mom and dad, instead of nannies. Pushed into a role he wasn’t up to, yet, he came across as a very insecure and unstable person. Nobody liked him much. He knew it, but there was not much he could do about this. While he was interviewed he worked in his ecological/biological garden. It was the first time I saw him totally relaxed.

Relaxed

Relaxed and certain he dug his hands in dirt and planted his precious veggies and flowers. He was happy, smiled a lot and came across as a very intelligent, soft spoken, man who knew exactly what and who he was and wanted to be. So when the anchorman told us now, during the coronation, that as a king, he wouldn’t have much time to ponder in his garden. Nor would he have much time to stand up for nature and climate change, I fervently hoped he would not let anyone dictate what he can and what he cannot do anymore.

Not befitting a King

Reason for his withdrawal was that it was not befitting a king. Baloney. We need a king who’s not looking away from these problems, more than ever now. And I have hope he has at last found his voice by not taking no for an answer. After all, he made sure the ceremony around the coronation was done in a sustainable way. He even refused the holy oil, before it being changed to vegan oil, for his salving. Here is a man who knows what he wants and is not afraid to say so anymore.

Moment

We all have our favorite moment of the ceremony. Mine was definitely at the end. When the royals had left the balcony and Camilla was about to, urging her husband to do the same. He let her go and waited for just a moment more. Looking back he smiled and seemed to be surprised that all those people cheered just for him. Not for anyone else, this was just for him. Basking in the moment, there was pure joy and a little smile that said it all. God save the King.
