Living consciously
Living consciously
We hear about living consciously around us. Mindfulness is a big thing. We all need to get on board. It seems this will make your life better and more worthwhile. I believe it. Many times I’ve felt I sort of lived, days were passing me by without any ‘living’ on my part. I sort of did what I had to do and sort of thought of everything else.
Uncle
My uncle told me recently he had discovered something weird about himself. Whenever he closed his eyes he would still see the last image he had looked at when his eyes were open. I thought that was not strange at all. Doesn’t everybody? According to him nobody else has this ‘vision’. I’m not sure. Maybe men see more things than women because they are more visual than we are. Or maybe we are more conscious?
Live!
Wouldn’t it be fun to live a little more consciously? My dad used to tell me that when I was a baby I would very intently look at a leaf, or his eyes, or just a small piece of a wall. All my senses were focused on that small item. Notice a baby looking at something. Even if it’s nothing ‘special’. And note how they use all their senses to make it part of who they are.
Grow
When we grow up we tend to leave it be. There are far more important things to think about than a part of a curtain. We have work to do, places to visit. And do these things kind of halfway. Because we are wise, we know a lot of things, so we don’t have to look for anything we’ve seen many times before.
Senses
Now can we try to experience something with all our senses? Like a baby? Feel the chair you’re sitting in, smell the flowers on your desk, hear the bus go by, taste the coffee, see the picture on the wall and live. Just live. No thoughts, no worries, no nothing. Meditation helps. Just for a few minutes a day. It will help you relax and it will help you love your life. You will find the wonder of it all like a newborn.
