Poetry by David Whyte
Poetry by David Whyte
You either love poetry or you hate it. There’s not much in between. For the longest time I’ve found poetry too strange, I didn’t understand it or it just didn’t appeal to me. It may take some time for some people to really appreciate it and I was one of them.
Fast
Maybe one of the reasons is that I read fast. I like to escape in books and not think about them too much. Poetry involves so much more. It needs my complete attention. I want to read it slowly and think about what I’ve read before I go on to the next sentence.
Patience
I’m not the most patient person on this earth. All in all, poetry was not something I could enjoy until I found a beautiful book called: ‘Still possible’ by David Whyte. Now the title is already a winner. Pretty much everything seems possible to me so I’m curious to what he thinks about possibilities.
Not disappointed
I wasn’t disappointed. The promise of the book: ‘what we pray for, what we pass on, what mystery awaits and, in the end, what it means to be happy’ is quite a task to write about. But the author delivers. In every poem, in every verse there’s an invitation to wonder, to imagine and to know.
David Whyte
The author was born in Yorkshire. His mother was Irish, his father British. David studied marine zoology and has put his many experiences in nature into his poems. He’s also a gifted writer and motivational speaker about creative leadership. He’s been invited to speak in many boardrooms of prestigious corporations all over the world.
Self-help books and poetry
When I can choose between a self-help book or a poetry book, I will always chose the latter. And wouldn’t it be a marvelous change to see poetry books in boardrooms instead of huge folders with information on how to become the biggest, the best, the most effective in your line of work?
